What xylitol is
Xylitol is mainly composed of D-xylitol. The part which is not D-xylitol is composed of related substances such as L-arabinitol, galactitol, mannitol, sorbitol. Formula C5H12O5, molecular weight 152,2. White, crystalline powder, practically odourless. Very soluble in water, sparingly soluble in ethanol. (Source: EU Regulation 231/2012, E 967.)
